Volunteering

The hospital put up posters in the elevators advertising their need for volunteers. This colorful poster shows a smiling, happy volunteer as she assists a smiling patient...very nice photo. It describes some of the things volunteers help out with and then makes the statement, "Volunteering is the greatest job you'll never get paid for!"

Is just me, or is that statement not very motivating?

  1. Yeah, I'd say that's poor marketing. They should have come up with a slogan that emphasized one of the perks of volunteering, not one of the drawbacks.

  2. I would have to say on a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being the best) that this poster would get a 1 in motivation and a 10 in truth, great job no pay! Catalyst is correct, there are many perks to volunteering, I guess the person in charge of marketing never had the priviledge of finding out (I guess the "no pay" turned him/her away from it).

  3. Yippeeee I can post again!!!!!!!
Now on to comment, I agree with above. Plus that poster is wrong in two ways: 1) It draws attention to a fact that no one but those with a true volunteer spirit would like (no pay) and 2) It dosen't acknowledge that people are smart enough to know that people are not always happy and smiling like they are in the picture. Zero points for realism.
